What is the “Tartan March”?

The Tartan March is a group of Scotland Fans who have crazily decided that it would be fun to walk from Oslo to Glasgow.

Why?

Inspiration for the adventure came from the annual “Highland March“.  This is a group of Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC fans who, every year, walk from the penultimate game of the season to the last game of the season to raise funds for Charities.

Martin Beaton decided to take this to the extreme and thus, the idea for the “Tartan March” was born.  Leaving from the Norway Fixture in Oslo (12th Aug 2009 T.B.C.) and with any luck, arriving for the Macedonia Fixture at Hampden 3 weeks later (5th Sept 2009 T.B.C.).

What’s the Route?

The route hasn’t been finalised as yet, but the intention is to walk from Oslo to the furthest west point of Norway and then catch a ferry to Newcastle and walk from there to Glasgow.  Ferry timetables etc will play a large part in determining the exact route and timing so keep checking back and as soon as we know we’ll let you know.

What are the Charities?

The main beneficiaries from the funds raised will be the SFA chosen Charities. These are yet to be named but the details will be posted soon. We will also look to contribute towards the Scottish Youth Setup and we will also do some “local” fundraising in Norway and make a donation to a similar charity there.

How can I donate?

We’re just getting ourselves set up and organised and until we have the proper things in place we don’t want to start taking donations.  We will however be setting up many ways (including online) for people to donate, so keep checking back.

Can I offer assistance?

If you think you can assist with anything then feel free to get in touch with us.  The easiest way to do that at the moment is to e.mail webmaster@tartanmarch.com - We will have specific requirements for assistance, and as soon as we have compiled a list of these we will post details on here.
