Michael, Martin, Laura and Calum meet George Burley (and our support driver Liam, unusually for him, is somewhere on time)

Tonight the Marchers are camped a day from Perth.  They hope to make it to Glasgow on Thursday night, and if they can they’ll visit the Scotland squad’s training camp on Friday.

This weekend they’ll also be welcomed back by the First Minister Alex Salmond, and you’ll see them pitchside at Hampden Park before kick off on Saturday.

In other news you can now donate online without a Paypal account at Justgiving.com! There are separate pages for both the TACC and Scottish Huntington’s Association so if you want to donate please consider both of our beneficiaries.

Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, and thanks to the tartan army in Norway who were extremely generous and gave us a great send off. Please keep it coming!

There is a daily blog on the SFA website,
which also has a message of support from Alex Salmond MSP.

Less than 24 hours before we all arrive in Oslo and the Tartan Marchers are all geared up and ready to go!
Before we do however, we would like to thank some people for kind donations of accommodation during our trip.
First, thank you to Robert Holan and his staff at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Stavanger (http://www.radissonblu.com/royalhotel-stavanger) for kindly donating beds for the marchers for both nights that we are staying in the town, as well as breakfast for the group. The hotel will provide a much needed comfort stop for us having camped wild for 2 weeks in the Norwegian wilderness!

Also, we wish to thank Sandy Gillone and staff at the Glasgow Youth Hostel (www.glasgowhostel.co.uk) for kindly donating a room, including breakfast, for the marchers on the night before the Macedonia game, when we eventually (!!) arrive! The hostel, in the centre of the city, has a perfect location for us starting off on the saturday morning on our final assault towards Hampden! Thanks again for your generosity!

Less than one week to go before we fly off to Oslo to watch Scotland play Norway and begin our massive trek back from there to Hampden Park in Glasgow. The last couple of weeks have been quite turbulent for the team, with some great news, but also a couple of setbacks…

First, The Tartan Marchers are delighted to introduce Liam Harkness as our support driver for the Norway leg. Having a support driver in place is crucial for the team and without one our walk would be made much more difficult. Liam’s duty will be to provide refreshment breaks at 8-10 mile intervals and be on hand for any medical emergencies the team may have. We all wish to thank Liam for giving up 2 weeks of his time to help us, and I am sure he will be a valuable asset to the team.

Some more good news; The Radisson SAS Royal Stavanger hotel have donated a couple of rooms for us to stay in when we are there from the 26th to 28th August. The hotel will provide a much needed comfort stop for us before we head off for our last leg in Scotland. So, a big thank you to Robert and all at The Radisson in Stavanger for their very kind offer.

The marchers recently featured in The Scottish Sun, who did a fantastic piece on our walk. Read more about it here - http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/2558212/Scotland-fans-plan-to-walk-back-from-Norway-for-charity.html .

Some bad news for us though, Calum will not be able to participate in the full walk. He will start the trip and manage around 230 miles before having to head home. It is quite unfortunate that it has come to this, but Calum had a difficult decision to make regarding his future and career comes first.

The SFA have been extremely helpful throughout the planning stages for this walk and it was they who arranged for us to have a vehicle over in Norway. They have also promised that we shall meet the players and coaching staff of the Scotland team at a training session in Norway, which is very exciting for all of us! From all of us, a big thank you is due to the SFA, especially Colin and Gillian who have done so much for us.

Finally, you can keep up to date with our progress on Twitter! During our walk we will send regular updates on our progress to keep followers informed. Find us on www.twitter.com/tartanmarch , and also add our group on Facebook!

Thank you to all of those who have supported us, and if you haven’t yet done so please click the ‘Donate’ button on the left of this page to help two very worthy causes!

Unfortunately, due to a lack of interest, we’ve decided to cancel both the football tournament and the charity walk along the West Highland Way. We’d like to thank everyone who had shown an interest in both of these events.

On a more positive note…

In May, all four Tartan Marchers took part in the longest Highland March to date, from Kilmarnock to Inverness. Due to work commitments Martin and Laura only took part in the first overnight leg, as did Michael. Calum did fantastic and completed the whole week, just over 180 miles! It was a great opportunity to get some real training under our belts, making us all desperate for the Tartan March to get underway! Thank you to all the Highland Marchers who were doing the event this year to help promote our event in August.

The Tartan Marchers will be making an appearance at Belladrum ‘Tartan Heart’ Festival, near Inverness, on the 7th, 8th and 9th August to raise money and awareness before we head off to Oslo on the 10th. We will be shaking buckets and organising some exciting events to raise some extra cash for our charities. If you are attending the festival, look out for us and please donate what you can!

We are also urgently looking for somebody who can drive for us through Norway. It is a long shot but if anybody can help out and take the wheel of a minibus for a couple of weeks it would be a great help and massively appreciated. If you are interested, please get in touch via email or leave a comment on the site.

Keep checking the website for updates!

The Tartan Marchers are hosting a charity football tournament on the above date at The World of Football in Edinburgh. We are looking for 24 teams to take part, with all profits going to our two charities. If you are interested in entering a team in the tournament, please either email me - donate@tartanmarch.com - or phone me on 07835069044.
Cost per team is £50, we’d recommend taking a few subs to split the cost up a bit! There will be trophies for the winners and runners up, and a buffet will be provided.

Please email me with your team captains name, your teams name and with details of how you would like to pay (PayPal, cheque etc).
Payment must be received within 7 days of entry, otherwise you will lose your place.

Thanks for your support!

Things have been quite hectic for the group over the last wee while, and over the next week are expected to get even more so. In a few days time, Scotland will take on Holland in Amsterdam, and the Tartan Marchers will be there! Two of us will be in the Dam Square on Friday selling t-shirts with the Tartan Army Childrens’ Charity before reinforcements arrive on Saturday to continue the party.
Then, on the following Wednesday, Scotland entertain Iceland. Before the game kicks off, there will be a gig at The Ferry on Anderston Quay in Glasgow, where the Tartan Marchers will be selling raffle tickets to give you the chance to win excellent prizes. During half-time at the game itself, Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond, has provisionally agreed to meeting the marchers on the pitch for a photoshoot, which would be fantastic, especially for our publicity.

Now, to the walk itself. The route may have to be changed slightly to keep costs down. We have been trying to find a ferry or a flight at a low cost, as it is coming out of our own pocket, and the cheapest we can find is from Stavanger rather than Bergen, which we had planned for originally. This means walking a few more miles through Norway - approximately 300 - but we’re happy to do that if it saves £200!! Our route should be finalised very shortly, and the website will be updated accordingly.

The Tartan Marchers are having a sponsored end-to-end walk of the West Highland Way on Saturday 18th, Sunday 19th and Monday 20th July. We welcome anyone to come along, whether you are in the Tartan Army or not, to enjoy a fun yet challenging weekend. It is entirely up to you how far you walk, be it 2 miles or the full 96. Sponsorship can be made in the form of a donation on this site, or on the day itself, where we will be shaking buckets. Remember, all money raised is split evenly between The Tartan Army Childrens’ Charity and Scottish Huntingtons Disease Association. Your support would be greatly appreciated!
Keep checking online for regular updates, and look out for us in Holland and Glasgow soon!
COME ON SCOTLAND!!

*Participants in the West Highland Way sponsored walk do so at their own risk and must arrange their own transport. Some areas of the walk are remote and therefore can be dangerous if you are not properly equipped. All four of the marchers will be carrying first aid kits, but please make sure you take the necessary precautions to avoid injury.

So… The decision has been finalised… The charities have been chosen!  The benefactors of the Tartan March will be The Tartan Army Children’s Charity and The Scottish Huntington’s Association.

The TACC is a fantastic charity which has done great work over the last few years raising money for children in Scotland and also the countries that the Scotland team visit.  They are aiming to raise the massive total of £100,000 for the children of South Africa by 2010… when we WILL be in the World Cup!

The SHA is another great charity which works to help sufferers of Huntington’s disease.  The SHA is the only charity which raises money solely for this illness in Scotland.  Huntington’s disease is a terrible illness but the work of the SHA makes the lives of those affected - both the sufferers and their families - a lot more comfortable.

I’m sure you will agree that both are very worthy causes, please help them raise money to help others by clicking the ‘Donate Here’ button on the main page.

Thank you!

Welcome to the new website of “TartanMarch.com”.

You can read all about the Tartan March and what’s behind it in the About page so I won’t bore you with too many details here, other than to say this website has been set up to record and share the details and planning of a walk from Oslo to Glasgow in Aug/Sept 2009.

There’s lots to do in planning such an event and we won’t be wasting the opportunity to rattle the buckets under everyones nose in order to raise some money for the Scottish Football Association’s selected Charities and the Youth Setup as well as some local fund raising in Oslo for a yet to be determined Norwegian based charity.

Don’t be a stranger, visit often and keep an eye out for ways you can assist us in our adventure!!!
